Overview

Raycast is a software that I use to replace the default MacOS spotlight search. By replacing cmd + SPACE with Raycast, I can quickly open the application that appears as a floating text input. In this input, I can quickly do quick math calculations, add an emoji, open an application, grab something from my clipboard history, and run bash scripts. I used to use Alfred and I bought a lifetime membership, but after trying out Raycast I can say for certain that Raycast is cleaner, faster, and more extensible than Alfred was. Raycast also has a significantly larger selection of 3rd party integrations which makes it more useful as a general purpose tool.

Raycast vs Alfred

I actually made a YouTube Video about Alfred Workflows but I have found that for now Raycast is a better fit for my day to day workflow. Also, for work some of my coworkers have written custom extensions/scripts for Raycast that work far better with our internal tooling and I can simply import these and use them quickly with Raycast.
