Why Rabbit Holes are Important to me

I derive a great deal of enjoyment and satisfaction from exploring a topic very deeply and learning the ins and outs of how things work. My favorite period of time in my life was the 6 months that I had after I graduated and before I started Working at Amazon. During those 6 months I was free to create and learn but most importantly I was able to go down rabbit holes without needing to pull myself away. I was able to go as deep into a topic as I wanted because I had nothing that I really needed to do. Life felt free because I had a job lined up and I had finished my classes, I didn’t need to interview and I didn’t need to work. I was free to explore and fall down rabbit holes. I completely transformed the way I use MacOS and I installed Asahi Linux on my M1 Max MacBook Pro.

I worked on rewriting my personal website using Remix and using AWS as a backend for a blog. I learned so much and you can read my First Blog Post that was written before I decided that a Digital Garden 🪴 was a much better way to share my ideas.

Going down rabbit holes is one of the things that I cherish most and I love learning new things about topics that I had no concept of and finding connections between seemingly unrelated ideas. I strive to be a lifelong learner and it sucks that Working at Amazon has prevented me from going down as many rabbit holes. Because of deadlines and sprint goals, I find myself needing to Timebox and actually get real work done which is quite unfortunate but recently, I am making an effort to find more time to let myself fall down more rabbit holes once again.
